Happy Birthday Gail!
Saara has been through a lot. Finding out some rumours about her mother, hearing that she works in a criminal organization against her will and being punched to her face by a teammate hasn’t been exactly easy for her.
The worst thing is I have a feeling that she hasn’t hit the rock bottom yet. Only the dirty and muddy ground below her.
Riitta died of a really aggressive cancer about five years ago, Saara being only 10 years old. Saara and her mom both had wonderful and wavy, naturally almost white hair. Unfortunately Riitta lost hers due to cancer treatments. There is also a reason why the hair of the young finnish girl isn’t long anymore…
Saara got to meet her mom again a while ago and talk with her once more for almost two weeks. Saara was relieved to see her mom as a healthy spirit again, complete with her beautiful hair. When Riitta had to return to the spirit realm and the little girl had to say goodbye to her mom the second time, Saara cried. A lot. But mostly because she was so thankful to see her mom healthy and happy again.
I want to make a more finished picture with Saara and her mom later! Once these tears dry up a little and I can actually see what I’m drawing ha… hahaha… Meanwhile, here’s a
self-therapeuthic sketchdump of Saara’s mother, Riitta Räty!
The Cave of Greed
On our last mission we went treasure hunting. After wrestling crocodiles and tricking trolls, the team eventually came across a cave full of wondorous treasures. A genie living there, Yzella, promised Saara everything in the cave in exchange for her teammates’ lives. Jo, Jimmy, Mako and Tetsuo had to do everything they could to convince Saara to spare their lives.

Some sketches of our first mission in Cardians!
It started out with sillies but quickly turned out into a battle of life and death. The after-session party was even worse, WHERE ARE ALL THESE FEELS COMING FROM
So I was practising drawing bears today and SOMEONE wanted to see Ilmari as a bear.
Here he is, ready for cuddly bearhugs.
Pacific doodles from the past weeks! Also Diamond Daddy is best daddy.
So in our first session, Saara got into trouble. After losing her dear 85-litre backpack, she had been stealing miscallenious items from the boat and trying to desperately replace her lost stuff.
Unfortunately, she got caught. As a result, her boss Emma ended up throwing her most prized possession, her mobile phone, off the boat right before her eyes.
Luckily, Saara’s boatmate Jimmy caught the phone in the last minute. Unluckily, he got punched to the gut by Emma. As a result, HE ALMOST DIED.
Thanks to Jimmy’s heroism, Saara got to keep her phone. Afterwards, she tried to thank Jimmy by giving him a measly hairpin. But, after losing ALL OF HER STUFF AGAIN, she couldn’t bring herself to do even that. Nice work, Saara, nice work.
So I saw others explaining the reasoning behind their character’s name and I wanted to do it too!
Saara is the Finnish form of Sarah. The name originally means ‘lady’ or ‘princess’ in Hebrew. Also I was acting in a stage play a while ago and my character’s name was Saara, so I had gotten used to being called that already.
The surname, Salonen, comes from a Finnish word Salo. Salo means ‘deep forest’ or ‘wilderness’, but the tone of the word is poetic. And lastly, -nen is a typical suffix for Finnish surnames, especially in eastern Finland.
Saara Salonen sounds like a common Finnish name. But if you dig deep enough you find its true meaning: ’Princess of the Forest’.
You’re not alone.
As Saara’s worries get bigger, so does her backpack. Luckily, she doesn’t have to carry either one of them alone.
